A large Five Guys fries is about 1,314 calories. The Bacon Cheeseburger — the heaviest burger they sell — is about 1,060. The side is bigger than the main, and it is not close.
The scale is easy to miss because Five Guys fries do not look like other chains' fries. A “little” is about 526 calories, which is more than a large fries at McDonald's (about 480). Then there is the extra scoop they tip into the bag, which no menu board anywhere accounts for.

Mayonnaise
a “free” topping
This is the thing that makes Five Guys different from every other chain in this batch. When Five Guys says a Hamburger is 840 calories, that is a bun and two patties. Nothing else. All fifteen free toppings sit on top of that figure.
Most of them barely register — lettuce, pickles, mustard, hot sauce, green peppers and jalapeños are each about 3 calories or less, and grilled onions and mushrooms are around 11 and 6. Mayonnaise is the outlier at roughly 111. The word “free” is doing something slightly different to what your brain hears.
That is why this calculator lists every topping separately: it is the only way to get an honest number for a restaurant built entirely around customisation. Build the burger you actually order.
A standard Five Guys burger is a double. That is not marketing — the regular Hamburger is two patties, and the “Little” versions are the single-patty ones. So a Little Hamburger at about 540 calories is the closest thing to a normal burger on the menu, and a plain Hamburger at 840 is already two.
The upside is protein: a Cheeseburger delivers about 47g and a Bacon Cheeseburger about 52g. These are large amounts of actual beef, not filler. Five Guys is expensive in calories because it is generous with food — which is a more honest problem to have than most fast food.
Bacon Cheeseburger (~1,060) + Large Fries (~1,314) + a milkshake (~670 before mix-ins) lands near 3,000 calories. That is not a meal, it is a day and a half — and it is a completely ordinary order.
Little instead of large saves about 790 calories — by far the biggest single lever available at Five Guys, and you still get the fries you came for. A little is genuinely a lot of fries.
A Little Cheeseburger (~610) versus a Cheeseburger (~980) saves about 370 calories, because it is the same burger with one patty instead of two.
Grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and pickles together cost under 40 calories. Piling them on is the cheapest way to make a Little burger feel like a full one.
Five Guys does not publish macros for its assembled burgers — only calories, plus a component-level nutrition guide. The calories here are Five Guys' own published figures; the protein, carb and fat values are summed from the components that reproduce those calories exactly.
Shake mix-ins get similar treatment. Five Guys' nutrition guide lists mix-ins at a manufacturer reference serving rather than the amount that goes in a shake — it prints peanut butter at 322 calories where the shake menu says 90. We use the per-shake figure from Five Guys' own menu, so the totals here reflect a shake you would actually be handed.
About 1,314 for a large, 953 regular and 526 little (Cajun is within ~15 either way). A large has more calories than any burger on the menu, and a little beats a McDonald's large.
No — the published figure is bun and patties only. All fifteen free toppings are extra. Mayo alone is ~111. Bacon and cheese are the exception: they're already in the named items.
Plain: Little Hamburger ~540, Hamburger ~840, Cheeseburger ~980, Bacon Cheeseburger ~1,060. Regular burgers are doubles; the “Little” ones are singles.
A Hot Dog (~520) or a Little Hamburger (~540) plain. Most free toppings are ~3 calories or less — mayonnaise (~111) is the one worth thinking about.
About 670 for the vanilla base. Mix-ins range from ~20 (strawberry) to ~320 (Oreo Crème), so a loaded shake can clear 1,000 on its own.
