Chick-fil-A's headline item is genuinely reasonable. The Chicken Sandwich is about 420 calories with 29g of protein — lower than a Big Mac, and a legitimately balanced meal. Most people order it assuming it is the indulgent choice.
Meanwhile the Cobb Salad is about 830 calories. That is not a typo, and it is not because salad is secretly bad for you. It is the dressing: Chick-fil-A publishes its salads with dressing included, and Avocado Lime Ranch alone is roughly 310 calories. The person ordering a salad to be sensible is often eating twice the sandwich.

If you care about protein per calorie, nothing else at Chick-fil-A comes close. An 8-count of Grilled Nuggets is about 130 calories for 25g of protein — a ratio that beats most protein bars, in a drive-through.
The breaded 8-count Nuggets deliver a similar 27g of protein but cost about 250 calories for it. Both are defensible; the grilled version simply does the same job for half the calories. The catch is that nuggets invite sauce, and two packets of Chick-fil-A Sauce (about 280 calories) will undo the entire advantage. Add them above and watch it happen in real time.
At about 140 calories a packet, sauce is the most calorie-dense thing you will add without thinking about it. It is not a reason to skip it — it is a reason to count it.
Because salads are published with dressing included, a Side Salad reads as 470 calories when the greens themselves are 160. Asking for dressing on the side, and using half, is the single biggest lever on any Chick-fil-A salad.
About 350 calories — more than the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. It is a milkshake wearing a lemonade costume, and it is very good; just know that it is a dessert, not a drink.
A medium is about 420 calories — the same as the sandwich it is sitting next to. Sizing down is the cheapest saving available without giving anything up.
The figures here come from Chick-fil-A's own published US nutrition information. They will not always match the third-party nutrition sites: several still list the Chicken Sandwich at 440 calories and the Grilled Chicken Club at 460, where Chick-fil-A's current published figures are 420 and 520. Where they disagree, the brand's own current data is what we use.
They are still estimates. Preparation varies between locations, and a sandwich is not weighed to the gram. The point is not a perfect number — it is knowing whether you are looking at 500 calories or 1,200 before you decide.
About 420 calories with roughly 29g protein, 41g carbs and 18g fat — genuinely modest for a fried chicken sandwich. The Spicy version is about 450; the Grilled about 390.
High in protein (~42g) but not light: about 830 calories as published, nearly double the Chicken Sandwich. The dressing is the reason — Avocado Lime Ranch alone is ~310.
Per calorie, the 8-count Grilled Nuggets: ~130 calories for 25g of protein. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is the best full meal at ~28g for 390.
About 140 per packet, almost all fat. Two packets is roughly 280 calories — the same as adding another side.
Yes — and no dressing-free figure is published. The Side Salad's 470 is 160 of salad plus 310 of Avocado Lime Ranch. Dressing on the side, used sparingly, changes the number a lot.
