At about 890 calories, the Baconator makes no attempt to look like a light lunch, and there is something refreshing about that. It is also the highest-protein item on the menu at roughly 59g — more than most people get from a chicken breast dinner.
The items that catch people out are the ones that look sensible. A Parmesan Caesar Salad is about 520 calories as listed — within striking distance of Dave's Single at 560. Nobody expects the salad and the burger to land in the same place.

A small chili is about 280 calories for 19g of protein. That is a genuinely good ratio, and more to the point it is actual food — beans and beef, not fried starch. It is one of the very few fast-food sides that would look unremarkable on a plate at home.
Swapping a medium fries for a small chili is the highest-leverage change available at Wendy's: you lose very little of the meal and gain protein while cutting calories. Build both versions above and compare the protein percentage, not just the total.
Wendy's publishes salads two ways, and the difference is large. The menu grid lists the Parmesan Caesar at about 520 calories — that is the entrée plus the dressing packet and croutons. The product page splits it out: roughly 270 for the salad itself and 240 for the dressing.
We use Wendy's combined figure here, because that is what you get when you order it. But it means the dressing is close to half the calories of your salad, and using half the packet is worth more than any other swap on the menu. It also means a Wendy's salad and a KFC salad are not directly comparable — KFC publishes its salads without dressing.
Dave's Single is 560. Add medium fries and a medium drink and you are comfortably past 1,000. The sandwich is usually the smaller half of what you eat.
The published nugget figures are the nuggets alone. Every sauce packet is on top of that, so add them in the calculator rather than assuming they are baked in.
A small chocolate Frosty is about 310 calories. It arrives in a cup with a spoon, which somehow makes it feel like part of the drink order rather than a second course.
A Jr. Cheeseburger is about 270 calories for 14g of protein. Two of them cost less than a Baconator and deliver a similar meal — the small sizes are underrated when you actually want a burger and a number you can live with.
About 890, with roughly 59g protein, 36g carbs and 58g fat — nearly half a 2,000 calorie day, and the highest-protein item on the menu. The Son of Baconator is ~590 with 34g protein.
About 560, with roughly 31g protein. Add medium fries and a medium drink and the combo clears 1,000 comfortably.
It is the sleeper pick: ~280 calories for 19g of protein in a small, and it is real food rather than fried starch. The published figure is the base chili — cheese and onion are extra.
Often not. The Parmesan Caesar is ~520 as listed (dressing and croutons included) versus ~560 for Dave's Single. Wendy's publishes the entrée alone at ~270 and the dressing at ~240 — so half the packet changes the number a lot.
A small chocolate Frosty is about 310. Sizes are listed separately above so you can add the one you actually ordered.
